Gallery - Anglia Flying Club historical images - 21/12/2009

The Curator recently received photographs of the early days of the Anglia model flying club on site at the aerodrome. The club is still fit and well and running on site. Thanks to Brian Austin for providing the photographs.
 
The picture taken at Flambirds or Stow Maries as it now is, was taken in 1972 & shows Dave Mason who  passed away in October this year, about to take off with the BE2c &  the other guy is Andy Woolner who lived in South Woodham Ferrers then but moved away soon after.

The original Anglia caravan in 1969, with group of members having a cup of tea. As a guide Dave mason is in the doorway with cup in hand. Brian Austin, a current aerodrome volunteer is standing virtually under the first A in Anglia & the Chairman of the club at that time was Ex Sqdn Ldr Eric Cable, who is the guy with moustache under the I  in Anglia. He was A great character, with stories to tell as he flew Sunderlands in the war & Beauforts & was a prominent member of the RAF Modelling Association.On the extreme right is Bob Tatlow, who ran King & Hines hardware shop in Burnham. He passed away in 2003, but his wife & son still run the shop in Burnham.
